Aluminum die-cast gear box after shot blasting treatment

April 20, 2026

KYLT die casting factory daily work: Aluminum die-cast gearbox after shot blasting treatment and ready for painting

Shot blasting is a common and critical pretreatment process in the surface treatment of aluminum alloy die castings, mainly used to clean the surface, improve adhesion, and enhance the bonding performance of subsequent coatings or electroplating.

1. Main function and purpose:

  • Remove surface pollutants

Effectively remove oxide scale, oil stains, residual release agents, and small burrs on the surface of die-casting parts, providing a clean substrate for subsequent treatments such as spraying, anodizing, and electroplating.

  • Enhance surface adhesion

By using high-speed steel balls or glass beads to impact, a uniform micro rough structure (anchor pattern) is formed on the surface of aluminum parts, significantly improving the bonding strength of coatings or electrophoresis.

  • Improve appearance and functional performance

Can achieve matte or matte effect, meeting decorative needs; At the same time, it helps to seal surface micropores, reduce stress concentration, and improve the fatigue and corrosion resistance of parts.

  • Eliminate internal stress and defects

In some processes, shot peening can also play a role in stress relief and surface strengthening, especially suitable for structurally complex automotive and aerospace die-casting parts.

2. Suggested process parameters:

Abrasive selection: Aluminum alloys should use non-ferrous abrasives with moderate hardness, such as glass beads, ceramic sand, or brown corundum, to avoid introducing iron pollution.
Particle size range: commonly used 80 # -320 #, the larger the value, the finer the sand particles, and the smoother the surface.
Spray pressure: controlled at 0.2-0.4 MPa, excessive pressure may cause deformation of the workpiece.
Spray angle and distance: It is recommended to form a 45 ° -75 ° angle between the nozzle and the workpiece, with a distance of 100-300 mm, to ensure uniform processing.
